Organization:     Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit

Location:            SuperMotocross Events (Nationwide)

Setting:               Mobile sports medicine

Imaging need:    Immediate onsite injury assessment

Challenge:          Portable imaging without sacrificing diagnostic capability

The Alpinestars Mobile Medical Unit provides onsite medical coverage during SuperMotocross, Supercross, and outdoor motocross events, supporting rapid rider evaluation and injury management in demanding competition environments.

Led by Dr. John Bodnar, the traveling medical team relies on portable imaging capable of delivering the diagnostic performance needed for real-world clinical decision-making directly inside the mobile treatment unit.

THE CHALLENGE

In professional motorsports, immediate injury evaluation can determine whether an athlete returns to competition, requires stabilization, or needs transport for advanced care.

Traditional portable imaging systems often lacked the output needed to confidently assess larger body parts and complex injuries, leading to unnecessary hospital transfers and delays.

The medical team needed imaging that combined true portability with diagnostic confidence—all inside a mobile medical unit.

“If I know it’s broken, then I can make a decision.”

— Dr. John Bodnar

SMART-C® CLINICAL AND OPERATIONAL IMPACT

By bringing imaging directly into the mobile treatment unit, SMART-C enables immediate fracture assessment, faster clinical decisions, and greater continuity of care during live racing events.

Dr. John Bodnar uses SMART-C to evaluate riders immediately after injury, helping determine whether they can safely return to competition, require splinting and stabilization, or should be transported for advanced care.

SMART-C supports:

  • Immediate injury assessment inside the mobile medical unit
  • Real-time fracture evaluation
  • Rapid treatment planning and return-to-play decisions
  • Reduced unnecessary hospital transfers
  • Portable, battery-powered imaging designed for travel

By keeping imaging where care is delivered, SMART-C supports faster decision-making while helping medical teams maintain continuity of care throughout competition events.
