Expanding Access to Orthopedic Imaging in Vietnam

Access to orthopedic care is not evenly distributed around the world. In many regions, limited resources and infrastructure can make even routine procedures more challenging — impacting both patient outcomes and provider efficiency.

Organizations like Bones Pro Bono are working to change that.

A Mission Focused on Impact

Bones Pro Bono is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free orthopedic and podiatric care to underserved populations through surgical missions and long-term partnerships.

Vietnam has been a key focus of these efforts for more than 15 years.

In late March 2026, their team returned to Da Nang, where U.S.-based surgeons partnered with the Da Nang Orthopaedic & Rehabilitation Hospital to deliver care, collaborate with local clinicians, and support the hospital’s ongoing capabilities.

Supporting Care on the Ground

As part of this mission, a SMART-C® mini C-arm was delivered and placed into use at the hospital.

The system was brought to Vietnam by Dr. Glenn Weinraub, CEO of Bones Pro Bono and former President of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. The device was intended not only to support procedures during the mission, but also to remain with the hospital as a lasting resource for their clinical team.

A Moment of Partnership

The handover was recognized during a formal ceremony at the hospital, attended by physicians, administrators, and staff.

Certificates were exchanged, flowers were presented, and both visiting and local teams gathered to mark the occasion. The ceremony reflected more than the delivery of equipment — it represented a shared commitment to improving access to care and strengthening clinical capabilities over time.

Why It Matters

Reliable imaging plays a critical role in orthopedic and podiatric procedures. In settings where access is limited, having the ability to image at the point of care can help:

  • Support more efficient procedures
  • Reduce the need for patient movement
  • Improve decision-making in real time
  • Expand the range of cases that can be treated locally

For the team in Da Nang, the addition of this technology provides not just short-term support during a mission, but ongoing value for everyday patient care.

Looking Ahead

Efforts like these highlight what’s possible when clinicians, organizations, and technology come together with a shared purpose.

Bones Pro Bono continues to lead surgical missions around the world, combining hands-on care with education and long-term investment in local healthcare systems. Partnerships like the one in Da Nang are a key part of that approach — ensuring that impact extends well beyond a single visit.

At Turner Imaging Systems, we’re proud to support initiatives that bring imaging directly to the point of care and help expand access to treatment where it’s needed most.
